Additional Tips For First-Time Home Buyers – Part 2

Thank you for joining us for part two of our blog series covering tips, tricks and quality information that all first-time buyers should know. We are so glad that we can provide you with some additional guidance in your home buying process. So, let’s not waste any more time and let’s dive right back in.

Get Pre-Approved

Before you start looking for homes, it’s always good to get pre-approved. The home buying process varies for each and every person, but each journey should start with pre-approval. Not only will being pre-approved ensure that you can begin the process of searching for a home, but it will give you the guidelines that you need to set your price point. In the end, this will help narrow down the houses that you’re able to purchase.

Look Into Location

The first home that you buy may not be the house that you stay in forever, but it is going to be your home for at least a couple of years. For that reason, you should spend some time determining where you’d like to purchase a house. For some, this may be an easy question to answer while others may be more open minded to location.

As you browse the different cities with available listings, you will want to make sure that you are considering factors like the schools in the area, crime rates, selling price points, and the like. All of these points should play a part in your final decision of neighborhoods and cities that you’d like to look for houses in.

Create Your Must-Have List

Again, your first home likely isn’t going to be your dream home, but you want to make sure that it at least meets your needs. Before you start shopping around for houses, determine some of the must-have items that a house needs to have for you to consider it. Maybe there is a certain number of bedrooms or bathrooms that you need to have to live comfortably. If you have a pet, a fenced in yard might be one of those requirements.

By creating a list like this, you can get a good idea of the factors that you absolutely need to have in the homes and the things that you can be a bit more flexible with — needs vs. wants.
